The Final Countdown
I made this podcast just so I could play this band:
- No Vacancy :: The Disciplines
from their Best Mistake EP. The Disciplines are Ken Stringfellow’s newest kick-ass (the most awesomest musician I know) band, and from all the youtube video clips I’ve watched of their live performances, no doubt that this band effing destroys and rules!
If you are lucky enough to catch one of their shows in like Norway, Finland, or something, please please report back to me. If you are nice enough to want to take me to one of their shows, please feel free to set that up! Ha.
Anyway, enjoy this song and you must play it LOUD.
- Sing For Me :: The Fiery Furnaces
from their EP. I heart this band and this song is super sweet. They are playing SD next month, I think @ the Casbah! Woohoo.
- I’ve Underestimated My Charm (Again) :: Black Kids
from their demo, Wizard of Ahhs. Thanks to Aaron for sharing this amazing band with me. They are from Jacksonville and I can’t wait to hear more from them. I only have like 4 of their songs and spent a few hours listening to them on repeat the other day. It was so hard to pick a song to play. Here’s their Myspace
- Emo Philips :: Arrah and the Ferns
from the album, Evan Is a Vegan. This is an adorable little band that’s lots of fun and easy on the ears.
- Don’t Make Me Wait :: Locksley
I love this band and this album. Thanks to Marv-elous for suggesting I check them out. I’ve been meaning to play them for a while. They seem super high energy rocking and awesome. Here’s there site. I think they are from Brooklyn and I bet their shows are fun.
- The Lot We Came Home With :: PAS/CAL
from their Dear Sir EP. Hey hey, my favorite band in the world. This song makes me happy. “collect revenge or just tin cans…” love the lyrics. Check them out here and buy their stuff on iTunes.
- Unavailable :: Papercuts
from Can’t Go Back. I know, I know, I kept saying “unavoidable” during the podcast. Wah. Oh well, you know what I meant.
- Just A Friend :: Biz Markie
from The Biz Never Sleeps. Oh, you know you love this song so go ahead and sing the chorus with the Biz… that piano or whatever makes him sound so vulnerable and sincere when he’s belting out, “YOU!!!!! you got what I NEEEEED!”
Thanks for listening to the podcast! Check out those bands, okay?
On Again :: Off Again
After not being able to sleep, feeling bored and lonely, and a few margaritas, I have decided to podcast. Originally, this was going to be a “Tribute to Harry Potter” podcast. You know, all things magical and wizardy…. but alas, this one will require a bit more sober thought on my part.
So, here are some songs I pulled from my recently played playlist. And yes, I am kinda slurring by the end. Wah. And songs are too loud, but agh, give me a break, it’s been ages.
- Roll On :: DNTEL
Jeff sent me this song and it’s been one of my faves ever since. Hooray for Jenny Lewis fans. I love the lines: “It’s just no fun, when your heart belongs to a sonofagun . . . but I love him, yes I do. And he’s gonna do what he’s gonna do”.
- On Again, Off Again :: Sean Lennon
Kinda defines my podcast these days. Ha. But oh boy, do I love his voice in this song. Sigh. Thanks again, Danny for hooking me up with this one.
- Your Arms Around Me :: Jens Lekman
Oh man, ever since Aaron gave me this album, I can’t stop listening to it. This is my new favorite love song. I wish Jens Lekman was my boyfriend, even if he was a jerk or something, because what girl wouldn’t stay with a guy who wrote songs like this? Huh? I mean it’s just soo sweet! You can’t fake that. Sigh. . .
- Asthma Attack :: The Fiery Furnaces
Hooray for this band and this song. Never before has asthma been so cool.
- Every Day :: Voxtrot
Another sweet sorta song. . . “I can trace an invisible piece of string connects between you and me”. They will be playing in SD soon. Woohoo!
- Chivalry :: Thao Nguyen
Okay, this is my other new favorite song. It’s the opposite of Jens. I think Thao and Jens need to go on a date or something. I love her voice. Wonder how the two would duet? There’s a lot of sadness in this song. I guess it’s like coming to the painful realization that if you broke up with him, he would just leave and never try to come back. Love that’s not matched. Less/more. I love when she sings, “Is it that my heart beat too loud?” and “I won’t make you come a little closer, do what you want, don’t do it for me”. Go acoustic, lady!
- Jacket :: David Vandervelde
from The Moonstation House Band. I really love this whole album. It’s a good one to keep on repeat if you like this sorta thing, which I certainly do. I like the way this dude sings. M does too. We sing it in the mornings in the car. She likes the part that goes, “Didn’t someone tell you it’s raining? Cuz you forgot your jacket on the second floor”.
- The Backseat :: Oh No! Oh My!
This kinda reminds me of a campfire singalong song. M does not like this song. She told me it’s the most awful song she’s ever heard. So, of course, I have to play it because of that.
Thanks for listening to this really bad sounding podcast, but hopefully the music will make up for my voice.
all swoony over music.
Howdy, listeners!
I am pleased to play my new favorite band on this podcast. Hopefully, you will love them as much as I do.
Anyway, here’s to lifting one’s spirits. Yay music!
- The Start of Something :: Voxtrot
Yes, the start of something, indeed. From the Ep excellente: Raised By Wolves.
Oh! How I love, love this band. They have me all giddy and excited about music. Everyday I battle over which is my favorite song.
I heart you, Ramesh Srivastava! I heart you!
I’ve been so sad all week. My heart has been breaking and I was feeling overwhelmed and helpless and alone in all of it. Thank you for making me want to get up and dance with abandon, like I used to back in high school to The Smiths.
- And I Won’t Cause Anything At All :: Loney, Dear
Good stuffs. Bee said I’d like them and he was right. I like the first line about climbing trees and then the other line about his shitty car.
- All I’ve Got To Do :: The Smithereens
You can go wrong with Beatles covers, but they don’t. Love this album.
- My Ivory Tower :: Papercuts
from the album Mockingbird. It’s nice mellow stuff to listen to while you are doing other stuff, like emails or laundry. Bee also said they were good. Correct again.
- Voltaic Crusher/Undrum to Muted Da :: Of Montreal
from the album, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? I sent this to Bee and he was like, “What’s this?!” Ha.
I think this is an exclusive track to iTunes though, y’all. My fave part: “Please God don’t be a bastard! Christ knows she deserves something nice for a change!” Yeah.. dot dot dot.
- Four Long Days :: Voxtrot
from Mothers, Sisters, Daughters and Wives EP.
Huge thanks to Andrew Morgan for telling me about them. Buy his album and Voxtrot’s Eps everyone. Go to Voxtrot’s sight and tell them I sent you. And maybe I can get an autographed picture or poster.
I couldn’t decided which one song to play so I’m playing two of theirs. I just heart the part where he sings, “But listen listen listen, I I I I I have never liked that look in your eyes” . . . oh I want to record that on a tiny microchip device and implant it in my body. Kinda like one of those Hallmark cards that play songs.
- You Know So Well (live) :: Sondre Lerche
Sondre’s a total fave here on the PinkBeltPodCast. And this song is for my marvelous friend, Marv. Congrats dude! Sondre wants him to be his graphic designer for his upcoming tour merch.
You know you rock, Marv.
Thanks for listening to my podcast everyone.
Now usually I don't do this, but a. . .
Hey! It’s another podcast and it’s not March.
Sorry, the volume is screwed up again. My voice is too loud so that it buzzes.
- Wake Up Wake Up Wake Up :: PAS/CAL
from the Dear Sir EP.
Brrrinng! Yes, that’s me trying to type the alarm clock sound that goes off in the beginning. It would be cool to have this song go off as your alarm though. My favorite parts are when Caz sings “Choo-ooo-oooze!” and the soft ending “Oh oh wake up….” part, that’s more like a lullaby than anything. God, I love the man’s voice. Love love love it.
- Lonely As Can Be :: The Concretes
I give this album like 3 stars out of umm…. 9. Mainly because I only really like three songs from that album. Okay, I admit I’ve only listened to it 3 times.
- Woke Up New :: The Mountain Goats
from the album Get Lonely.
Done! I like that title. The album gets a lukewarm reaction from me, but then again, their stuff takes a while to grow on me. However, I enjoy this song and the part about making too much coffee and the part about the astronaut could see the hunger in his eyes from space. Awwww…. Lyrics rule in this song.
- Walking With Thee :: Clinic
We’ve been listening to this song so much and I didn’t think M would enjoy it, but she does and sings along while playing with Strawberry Shortcakes and stuff. . . which makes me laugh and think “rad”.
- Amsterdam :: Peter Bjorn and John
from Writer’s Block. This is another great track from the album and I’m not saying that just because there’s lots of whistling in it.
. . . okay, well, maybe.
- Very Much Alone Pt. 4: O, Fuck, I’m Fucked, Fuck. :: Drakkar Sauna
from the album Rover. Bee sent me some of their tracks and I listen to them all the time.
You will find poetry: “I pray for God to kill me/ I pray that he will kill you too/ One day he’s gone to get around to my prayers/ I wonder which one he’ll choose”.
And. Kazoos!
- Ignition (Remix) :: R Kelly
This song is soo bad, it’s just brilliant. I was trying to isolate some favorite lyrics, but what can I say, they’re all faves.
References to the old Angela Lansbury show “Murder, She Wrote”, sports, cooking, hotels, cars and fine beverages. . . “Cristal poppin’ in the stretch Navigator….” and all the wonderful parts that you just can’t help but go “toot toot” to when he asks for it.
Anyway, I’ve been writing lyrics for my own umm… Apple version of the song. I started one that went “Girl, let me please plug my firewire into your PowerBook” and ”... running your hands over my MacBook Pro/ It’s the only way to go…” There’s more about Apple Automator, I’m your XXX Code and plug-ins.
Agh, I’m a nerd.
Have a great week and thanks for listening.
- PAS/CAL
- Best band ever.
Holiday leftovers.
Happy New Year!
Starting of the 2007 podcast with my favorite band (PAS/CAL, duh!), from their latest awesome EP, Dear Sir, and some other songs I’ve been listening to a lot lately… well, back in 2006…
- C.A.U. (Sans Muscle) :: PAS/CAL
Listen up at 3:20 and rock out! Okay, that’s my most favorite part of the song. I love how Caz sings “malicious”. Best voice ever. This song goes out to Aaron and his girlfriend.
Okay, buy it on iTunes: HERE!
- T.K. :: Clinic
from the rad album Internal Wrangler. Thanks to Bee for getting me into them and sharing all of their stuff.
- Wait For Me :: Sean Lennon
from Friendly Fire. One of my new favorite albums from 2006. I love the part where he kinda pauses and then counts before going into it again. Rock on, Sean. Hey, did anyone see him in NY with my Jim Noir?
- Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me :: Grant-Lee Philips
Oh sigh. From that covers album of his, Nineteeneighties. This story is old, but well not bad at all, Mr. Philips. The best part of this song is the subtle cascading keyboard-y-ness around the beginning and last minute.
* Waterfall :: ELOI was debating between this one and “Confusion” in this podcast, but decided to go with this lovely track at the last minute. This song is for B, who sent it to me.
- I Fought The Angels :: The Delgados
This song rules.
- Young Folks (featuring Victoria Bergsman) :: Peter Bjorn and John
from the album Writer’s Block.
Thanks for listening!
