Admit it. You totally love Jim Noir.

I kinda felt like hellish leftovers doing this podcast, hence the totally blah sounding voice.

This week’s music for ya:

 • Much Too Long :: The Sounds

from their latest release, Dying To Say This To You, which I am loving! I was bummed that I missed their Casbah show, but I’m seeing them at another show (yeah, I had a back-up show planned!) Marvy has been going on about them for a while now, fyi.

 • My Time Is Now :: Nicolai Dunger

from his thoroughly pleasant album, Here’s My Song. There’s an earlier podcast of mine where I played a track – him doing a rad cover of Alone Again, Or with Calexico. That’s a link there, it was in my “Why don’t you dance with me?I’m not no Limburger!” podcast.

 • Carolina :: Ben Gibbard

Oh, how I love thee, Benjamin.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Danny for making my week with the Ben tracks. Sigh. I love these songs. I guess it’s from a split EP? Home, or something like that?

 • Trust vs. Mistrust :: The Spinto Band

from the highly enjoyable, fun CD, Nice and Nicely Down. I love this song. It’s all sweet, cute and dancey. Not to mention, super fun to sing along to.

 • Private Eyes :: The Method and Result

A little H&O cover for y’all. I was originally going to play “Rich Girl”, maybe next time.

 • Queen Of The Cathode Ray :: The Mesmers

Thank you to Patrick for telling me about this band and for gifting me this track.

 • Watercolours Into The Ocean :: Destroyer

from the album, Destroyer’s Rubies. You know I never really gave Destroyer a good listen until my magically rad friend Bee (who’s a total music badass, btw) sent me some stuff, and I listened, and liked.

 • Eanie Meany :: Jim Noir

Yes, I’m going to play the whole album, Tower Of Love, eventually. I love this guy. A lot.

Thanks for listening to the podcast!

Have a super week.

Love,

Joy

(Haha. I thought it would be silly to end this post like that.)

This one is all Morrissey!!!

The making of this podcast just made me so happy. And I was already smiling to begin with; believe it or not.

I found myself doing way too much singing and dancing.

It’s just one of those things I can’t be quiet about. If I’m going to play it, I’m going to play it loud and then, I’m going to sing loud and dance, badly.

It was difficult to choose just a handful of songs and I basically let my mood pick the tracks. I’m in a good mood, so there’s no “Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together” on this one. I will have to do another all Moz podcast again soon.

 • The Loop

God, this is one of those songs where I won’t listen to it for a while and then I’ll put it on and I am in love.

 • The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get

I couldn’t live without my Vauxhall and I. And hello, you know I obsessed so much over those new boots just because they were called the “Vauxhall”.

I remember hearing this song for the first time and I was like, “Holy moly! Genius Morrissey!” I love the part where he sings, “I’ve made up your mind”.

 • My Love Life

I love his voice in this song. You just feel it, you know?

This is from the special “Morrissey at KROQ” CD. KROQ is this radio station in LA, that used to be cool when I was a kid. Morrissey’s appearance at the radio station was my first time seeing and touching him.

I talk about it a bit in the podcast. I left out coming home to my house with all of my friends. My mother on the stairs getting ready to go away on a cruise, and all of us crying on the floor while she just stood there, holding her clothes and staring at us.

 • The Last Of The Famous International Playboys

Okay, please tell me I’m not the only one who can’t help dancing to this song and singing it at the top of my lungs.

I love the way he sings the syllables in this song, like “Per-fect-ing”! Ah, that makes me feel dizzzy.

(Sorry, had to dance again. My totally awesome Morrissey dance. Seriously, how many of my younger evenings were spent perfecting it in front of the mirror? I’m not telling!!!)

Oh, I can’t help quoting you… because everything that you said rings true… ah ho ho ah ho ho…

Now dance those legs down to the bone!

Each and every single lyric in this song is awesome.

And you can’t stop singing the end, “Oh nooo…

 • Reel Around The Fountain

Quite possibly, my most favorite Smiths song ever.

I always had silly dreams as a senior in high school of this being played at my “wedding”, as I walked down the aisle… violins, piano, cello.. “fifteen minutes with you…” I’d circle some fountain outside… a few times, because my dress would totally rule. My vows would be all Smiths lyrics… I’m silly.

 • Bengali In Platforms

Come on you know you roll the “r’s…” when you sing “embrace”!

I ran out the day Viva Hate came out to buy it with all of my friends. I just love the sound and the mood of this song. You know, I can sing the entire album, right? Without the music. I love this album. It’s a best friend. We’ve cried, danced, laughed, slept, sulked, longed…. all of it, together.

 • There’s A Place In Hell For Me and My Friends

I always believed this song was for all of us Morrissey fans.

And I love this rocking out version. It’s like, HELL YES!

Sorry, I have to dance and do my air guitar thing….

I remember playing this song on a Sunday after Church, with my mother in the car. Ohh… it felt good.

* * *

Thanks so much for listening and I hope you found yourself singing along, and smiling too.

I hope everyone takes care and has a safe and happy New Year with friends and family. I’m pretending Friday is my New Year’s Eve. It just rocks better that way.

Oh!

And….

MORRISSEY RULES!

I always try, I always miss

 • Johnny Johnny Ooh Ooh :: Sondre Lerche

This is from the Two Way Monologue EP.

I love Sondre, even though I still have no idea how to pronounce his name. He’s my favorite Norwegian. He always sits on my lap. Although I wonder if he’ll still do it, now that he’s married… I mean, he should because I always mean it in the most loving, maternal kind of way. Really.

 • Combat Baby :: Metric

I love this song and her voice when she sings, “No one wants to fight me, like you do”.

They are playing next month at the Casbah! Hurrah.

 • Sunlight On The Other Side :: Safety Scissors

from his album Tainted Lunch (Oooh oh.. tainted lunch...) Yah, I know it’s Erlend Øye singing on there. My hard feelings are finally gone.

 • Security Leak :: Darren Hanlon

From his album, Security Leak. I love songs like this, where it seems like he’s making it up as he goes along, retelling some story.

And I have a weakness for songs mentioning lie detectors, Chinese torture and “I don’t know’s”.

Negatory!

 • Shut Up And Kiss Me :: Pony Up!

I was going to use this one for my “songs featuring xylophone” podcast… but Oh well. Thanks to Danny for the hook-up.

 • They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From The Dead!! Ahhhh! :: Sufjan Stevens

The best part of this song besides the groovy bass line, xylophone and the spelling out of “I-L-L-I-N-O-I-S”, is it’s lengthy ass-kicking title.

It cracks me up watching it scroll across my iPod screen or in the iTunes window.

 • Thugz Mansion (Nas Acoustic) :: 2Pac, J Phoenix & Nas

You know me by now and I make no apologies for the random songs I love, and “Thugz Mansion” is one of the most played songs on my iPod.

I feel as if I could write a lengthy analysis of this song (actually, I may – just for myself!) There are so many things about it that I continually discover and love, like the acoustic guitar combined with the weariness of being a “G” and the expression of peaceful wishes.

Through lyrical gems like:

“Dear momma don’t cry, your baby boy’s doin good
Tell the homies I’m in heaven and they ain’t got hoods”.
(2Pac’s part, love his voice… it makes me sad now.)

And really, when’s the last time you’ve heard “liquor” and “bicker” as rhymes? Huh? When? More genius.

Remember when I said I was teaching myself to play Death Cab’s “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” on my guitar?

Well, forget it.

It’s all about “Thugz Mansion” now.

In fact, I hope to have it recorded in time for Christmas to send out to my family with my Christmas cards because… my Christmas cards rawk.

* * *

Thanks for listening to my little podcast. Really, I mean it. And thanks to all y’all who sent me some seriously nice emails. I can’t tell you how it makes my day.

Happy Halloween!

The podcast that almost wasn't...

# 2005-10-21 by pinkbelt

Goodness, I’m tired.

I almost forgot to do a podcast this week.

I’ve completely confused all the days and dates for the week.

Maybe I need to start watching television again. Sort of like a modern sundial, you know?

Like you can determine the day of the week if “Alias” was on or “Survivor” or something… Okay, so that’s a weird thing to say.

Songs, I whipped together (phew!):

 • The Legionnaire’s Lament :: The Decemberists

From the album Castaways and Cutouts.

 • Hanging Out With Me :: Elliott Smith

This is one of the tracks which was leaked last week, along with a bunch of other previously unreleased Elliott.

I’ve been listening to these songs a lot. It’s been difficult to hear, but I can’t stop. It’s hard to believe it’s been two years.

I had planned on talking more about him and what his music meant to me in this podcast.

I tried, but I just couldn’t and I doubt anyone wants to hear that.

 • Thank You :: The Redwalls

I’m still listening to De Nova.

Okay, I lied. It just came up on random.

 • Duchess :: PAS/CAL

A Scott Walker cover. This is from a radio appearance in 2003 (I believe). I love this track because you can hear more of Bem singing. At least, I think that’s who the female vocalist is. Loveliness. I love her.

 • Letter To The East Coast :: John Vanderslice

From Pixel Revolt.

 • Nowhere Man :: Low

This is from the This Bird Has Flown: A 40th Anniversary Tribute to The Beatles’ Rubber Soul and so far, Low’s cover is my favorite.

 • Losing My Edge :: LCD Soundsystem

I really love this track. It’s genius. It’s long.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Thanks so much for listening… itunes. subscribe. yadda. yadda.

Boyzzz 2 Men

# 2005-09-09 by pinkbelt

Let’s hear it for the boy!

Okay, so here’s the other half of my Girls! Girls! Girls! podcast from a few weeks ago.

There were so many songs to choose from that I limited myself to only songs:

 • I already had imported into my iTunes library
 • songs I liked
 • songs that had either “boy” or “man” in the title.

Alright, are you ready?

Earphones in! Your finger on Play!

GO!

Intergalactic :: Beastie Boys

Okay, so this song only meets two out of the three requirements previously mentioned: “boy” is in the band name and I made an exception because I love this song.

It’s all woks, Mr. Spock and robotic sounding voices!

Unfortunately, as you listen to this, you will realize I have rambled, more than usual :: sharing a few totally lame stories about “robotic-ish” voices….

1.) When I talk to one friend, I for some odd reason, always end up sounding like a robot through her phone. It freaks her out, but I will say things like “No parking on the dance floor!” and “I’ll be your freakazoid. C’mon and wind me up!” (hmm… if you know of these songs, say so!).

2.) Hearing robots in a restaurant, while I exclaimed again and again, “Hey! Is there a robot in this restaurant!” in excited glee… only to realize it was a person with one of those voice box thingys. I don’t know their proper name, but it’s like that guy in South Park… I’m a horrible person, huh? Honestly, I really thought there was a robot in the restaurant, okay?

Boys Keep Swinging :: David Bowie

Boys are so lucky. They always win with the whole ability to stand and pee.

The Bronze Beached Boys (Come On Let’s Go) :: PAS/CAL

Yes, it’s my favorite band!

In case you hear this song and you’re all, “Heeeyyy, I think I’ve heard this before…” and don’t know where.. well, it was in a Saturn commercial a while back.

Teddy Boys :: Adam Green

Shortest songs ever.

Here Comes Your Man :: The Pixies

Doolittle is their best album. Period.

Little Man, What Now :: Morrissey

With an album name like Viva Hate, it’s gotta be good!

Straight To The Man :: Stone Roses

Their self-titled album is my fave. Unfortunately, Second Coming kind of sucked.

X-ray Man :: Liz Phair

So true.

I’m the Man Who Loves You :: Wilco

Wilco Shmilco!

Bad Boys :: Wham!

You know you loves this song!

So, don’t act like that, okay?

I’ve always felt the part where they sing “Doo DO Do doo Whoo Whoo!”, was pure laziness on Wham!s part. They just never got around to finishing the lyrics, you know?

And that’s all folks!

Hope you liked it, hope you subscribed to it in iTunes.

Feel free to comment. I love feedback.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks so much for listening to me.

Really, really. You are rad!
