PinkBeltRage
sorry, you're gonna have to wait for the diddy.
- Bring Your Love Down (Didn’t I) :: Yaz
from an old fave Upstairs At Eric’s. This brings back memories of karate shoes and garage dance parties.
Holy crap, you’re going to dance like crazy to this song. I suggest you stretch a bit before playing this one.
- Age Of Consent :: Grant Lee Philips
from the album nineteeneighties. It’s all 80’s covers, including a pretty great Smiths cover. I’ve seen Grant Lee Buffalo a few times back in the early 90’s in LA…. and all I can really remember is that he looked sleepy all the time; actually, kinda like a sleepy monkey. Yes? Am I right? Anyone?
- When You’re Near Me I Have Difficulty :: XTC
Bee gifted me this whole album, Drums and Wires, cuz he’s rad like that. The best parts of this song, in my opinion:
1. the annunciation of “difficulty”
2. the jellyfish part
- Alone Again Or :: Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs
Good god, I love that Matthew Sweet, middle-aged, frumpster’s voice! That, plus Susanna Hoffs (remember that song “Eternal Flame? That’s some singing Bangles girlie!)... who could ask for more?
- Skeleton Key :: Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s
- I Love You, Ono :: Stereo Total
- Parachute :: Sean Lennon
Oh boy, I love this new Sean Lennon album, Friendly Fire. God, doesn’t he sound like his dad? This song is just great. You know the part M & I like to sing? ... the background “la la la la’s”, of course.
- O Valencia! :: The Decemberists
This is some single and I like it very much. Lots of awesomeness abounds note for note. It just keeps going and rocking and doesn’t stop and never looks back. I appreciate songs like that. Go Decemberists dude! (Does anyone else confuse his recent pics with the Gibbard?)
Thanks for listening to my podcast! Hopefully, I can get my iTunes issues straightened out and podcast a little more regularly.
Take care everyone who listens to this. You rule!
Am I asleep or awake?
This was going to be the all summer-y, hot, sunny, sweaty podcast. Featuring songs with appropriate titles and lyrics, but it’s cooled down significantly and I got sick of some of the songs I originally selected.
So here’s what we’re left with:
- A Sweet Summer’s Night On Hammer Hill :: Jens Lekman
from Oh You’re So Silent Jens.
- My Slumbering Heart :: Rilo Kiley
from The Execution Of All Things. Oh rawk on guitars! My God. I love that about this song and how it just kicks a**. Blast it, please.
My new favorite Rilo song of the week-ish and soon to be yours too. If you listen to just one song from my podcast, just listen to this one super loud. It really rocks. Guitars, beeps, Jenny… who could ask for anything more? Plus she sings about baseball.. grassstains, dreams.. failure… that all fits with summer.
- Bluebird Is Dead :: Electric Light Orchestra
I think I’ve listened to this song like 100x in two days. So, it’s officially summery for me.
- Hotwax :: Beck
from Odelay. I love Beck. Was he part of the Hubbard-y-ness when this album came out? My favorite part of this song is still the part where he sings, “because I get down, I get down, I get down all the way”.
- Stay In The Shade :: José González
from Veneer. Full-on summery song. He’s not so bad either. This song is very Nick Drake to me.
- Mad World :: Tears For Fears
Okay, if you’re going to listen to two songs. Make it that Rilo song and this TfFs song, k? I’ve always loved this song. I love the beginning of this song and the part where he sings, “Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday”. I was gonna play “Shout” but next time.
- Cool It Now :: New Edition
Umm… I don’t think there’s anything I can say here besides, Badass Boy Band!. Oh c’mon. I know everyone is singing along and I totally just made your day. Yeah. You’re all smiling. I’m all about spreading the musical goodness, y’all.
Thanks for listening and subscribing and emailing. Tell your friends! Send me your favorite 80’s songs! Help me find 3-inch, brown, black, or green Mary Janes with a comfy footbed and strap that doesn’t dig!
i pity the fool
I don’t know why, but I have been thinking about Mr. T lately.
Hence the title.
The music, y’all! ::
- Superman :: REM
from the album, Life’s Rich Pageant . . . this song goes out to my dorky cool homeboys: Ron, Dave and Mike and all the fine folks I met from DC Comics. Thank you so much for the warm welcoming slightly sweaty embrace into your world. You all rock.
- Senses Working Overtime :: XTC
Another old flashback… which kinda goes along with my whole Comicon experience. I took photos for four straight days, Thursday through Sunday. You can view them here.
- Cast It At The Setting Sail :: Danielson
from the album Ships. Thanks to super Bee for sharing the album with me. It is frequently listened to on my iPod.
- Sea Of Love :: Cat Power
I love this cover. A lot. There’s something honest and haunting about the way she sings it. Sigh.
- If You Don’t Like Me, Don’t Look At Me :: Morrissey
from the EP-ish thingy, The Youngest Was The Most Loved. Thanks so much to super Bee for giving me the EP thingy. Morrissey so totally rules.
- With Arms Outstretched :: Rilo Kiley
from the album The Execution of All Things. I love the singalong factor at the end of this track. And plus, I love Jenny.
- Let’s Dance :: M.Ward
Another cover song. I love the original so much and when super Bee sent this to me, I was seriously addicted to it and couldn’t stop listening to it. I played it for my friends in their cars and waited for their “whoa!” reactions to how much this cover rules.
I love the first time he sings, “and if ya say run… I’ll run with you...” I love the way each syllable is annunciated. Ohh… that part kills me when it’s super loud in the headphones. Oh sigh.
Thanks for listening and for everyone’s nice emails about my podcast. The one’s where people ask for a new one make me laugh. And I love it when people say I keep them company at work… or in some sorta dull situation where music provides a nice rescue during the day.
That makes me super happy.
Hope everyone enjoys August!
Rock on.
Too warm and lethargic to do anything.
- Let’s Get Out Of This Country :: Camera Obscura
from the album of the same song name, which I love. This is one of my favorites right now. I can’t stop listening to it. Okay. Okay!
- Love Love Love :: The Mountain Goats
from The Sunset Tree. I saw them on Thursday @ the Casbah. Pretty awesome because it was sold-out and my super duper Casbah friends let me in for free! Yeehaw. I took a lot of pictures.
- There Is A Light That Never Goes Out :: The Lucksmiths
Best Smiths cover ever. I love this and it’s male/female/duet-y-sweetness! Aghh…. I want to jump into this song like a swimming pool or warm ocean and swim all around and do somersaults underwater. Yes, I enjoy it that much. Thank you X five billion, Super Bee for sharing.
- A Smile That Explodes :: Joseph Arthur
from the album, Our Shadows Will Remain. Mellow song. I heart hardcore smiling.
- The 15th :: Wire
from the album, 154. Heck yeah, this kicks asses. This song is for Bee who is like the awesomest ultimate resource of music knowledge ever, especially when it comes to the band, Wire, and all things Wire-related. :) Rock! Dude!
- A Nervous Tic Motion Of The Head To The Left :: Andrew Bird
from the album The Mysterious Production of Eggs.... Go, go, go whistlers! Okay, maybe it’s just a whistling sound effect, but anyway I’m going to whistle regardless.
- Minor Detail :: Sondre Lerche and the Faces Down Quartet
from the Duper Sessions. More mellow, too hot to move music for y’all.
- Shelter :: Ray Lamontagne
from the album Trouble. Super good nice stuff. I love this song so much. It’s very sigh inducing.
Hope everyone keeps cool. Thanks for listening to my podcast and thank you for all of your very kind emails.
Go music! Yay!
Go forward move ahead
Howdy Podcaster Listeners Near and Far!
- You Have Killed Me :: Morrissey
from Ringleader of the Tormentors. God, I love this song. I love the Mozzer! I jokingly dedicated this song to my mom. Haha. Wah.
- They Took A Vote and Said No :: Sunset Rubdown
from Shut Up I Am Dreaming. Yeah, that title is so in your face. I love it. I’ve been listening to this a lot. Thanks to Super Bee who shared the album with me.
- Endgame :: Rogue Wave
from Out of the Shadow. This song is rad. I got it on a mix CD from my good friend Jeff.
- Destroy Everything You Touch :: Ladytron
from Witching Hour. This song is best paired with lots of shoulder movements, in my opinion. Mucho thanks to the lovely DJ Bardot for sending me a bunch of CDs way back when, including some Ladytron!
- It Was Only Love :: The Cribs
from The New Fellas. I can sing this pretty badly. Thankfully, my little girl is the only one who is subjected to my awful vocals at maximum wailing volumes in the car and well, she still loves me.
Aww you’ll listen to this and see how it’s fun to sing. The chorus… “you know I never wanted anything more...” so the best to just get way into it. If I were in a band, I’d sing all wahr lazy and stuff like that.
- Musique Automatique :: Stereo Total
from Musique Automatique. Super Bee had sent me a few of his fave ST tracks and I thought they were so awesome that I had to slip one into the podcast right away and changed everything around to accommodate it. So yeah, prepare to have this song totally kick your ass if you’re like me and never heard it before.
- Motorboat :: The Steven McDonald Group
from This Is Not A Rebellion. This song is super fun, danceable, and the best to learn and sing. Hey, it’s about motorboats and I’ve probably played it before. SO what the Heck!
- The Curse Of Being In Love :: Sondre Lerche and The Faces Down
from The Duper Sessions.
- Gone Daddy Gone :: Gnarls Barkley
from St. Elsewhere. I like this Violent Femmes cover. I like covers. I’m one of those weird people who even in hot humid weather has to sleep with a sheet of some sort covering me.
Thanks for listening to my little podcast. Hope you enjoy something in it.
